On March 21, 2015, under the baton of Music and Artistic Director Armando Torres Chibrás, the South Lower California Philharmonic debuted to glowing reviews. A full house theater welcomed the presentation concert of the project for the creation of the flagship orchestra of the Mexican State of Baja California Sur, crowning their performance with several standing ovations. Journalist Modesto Peralta – from the Newspaper Octavo Día – reported the ambiance of the crowded theater similar to that one of a rock group concert and praised the talent of Maestro Chibrás for his musical talent and his charisma to entertain the audience.

A passionate citizen-artist, Maestro Chibrás is providing essential consulting and leading the efforts to create the South Lower California Philharmonic Orchestra, as one of its founding members as well as its Music and Artistic Director.A passionate citizen-artist, Maestro Chibrás is providing essential consulting and leading the efforts to create the South Lower California Philharmonic Orchestra, as one of its founding members as well as its Music and Artistic Director. There is no professional orchestra in the isolated federal state of Baja California Sur, and very few professional musicians. Therefore, Maestro Chibrás is working to transform the reality of that state to one of a world-changing musical force, just a two- hour flight from Los Angeles.

The orchestra is a dream made true thanks to the work of a group of committed citizens and citizen-artists through a private foundation and sponsored by the State of Baja California Sur, the Sudcalifornia Institute of Culture, the Municipal Government of La Paz, the School of Music of BCS, the Concert Hall of La Paz ¨SCON¨ and the National Council for Culture and the Arts (CONACULTA). The orchestra is composed of musicians from Mexico, Spain, Cuba and the United States of America, resulting in a sparkling international ensemble. After the June 2015 federal and state elections, the 2015-2016 season is expected to be announced soon.
