Conducting debut with the Mexico City Chamber Orchestra at the Lebanese Center of Mexico City.

Participated at the 3rd encounter of directors of Music Community Ensembles organized by El Sistema Mexico.

Leading the efforts to create the South Lower California Philharmonic Orchestra in La Paz and Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico. 

 

2014 February 13-19

Armando Torres Chibrás was in charge of the planning and coordination of the research visit of Tricia Tunstall (author of Changing Lives) to El Sistema projects in Mexico for her new book for Norton publishers. Together with travel companions Adam Johnston (founder of El Sistema Santa Babara) and Myka Miller (Director of Harmony Project Los Angeles), under the assistance of Chibrás, the group visited El Sistema Programs “bursting with musical vitality” in the cities of León, Guadalajara, Tepoztlán, and Puebla, observing the activities in situ of the Imagine Program in León, and the Centro Fox Chidren orchestra and Choir Program at the presidential library of past México’s president Vicente Fox where they meet the former First Lady Martha Sahagún. After Lomas del Paraíso in Guadalajara followed a meeting with composer Arturo Márquez in Tepoztlán, a visit to La Constancia Mexicana facilities and headquarter of Esperanza Azteca Orchestra program in Puebla, later visiting El Sistema Mexico headquartes in Mexico City and finally having a meeting with Esteban Moctezuma, head of Azteca Foundation. The same day of their departure the American visitors attended the Take a Stand Symposium 2014 organized by Los Angeles Philharmonic where they shared the impressions of their experience south of the border. Tricia wrote a Letter from the Editor in April issue of The Ensemble, a newsletter for the U.S. and Canadian El Sistema movement, and acomment in her blog

2013 December 11-12

Participated at the First Pedagogical and Experience Exchange Encounter of Community Music Groups from Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica and Mexico, organized by El Sistema-Mexico (Sistema Nacional de Fomento Musical) and the Iberorquestas' Program of Cultural Cooperation of the General Ibero-American Secretariat (SEGIB) in Mexico City. Key speakers were: Enriqueta Maritza Parada, CEO of Fundación de Orquestas Juveniles e Infantiles de Chile; Catherine Surace Arenas, Fundación Batuta-Colombia; Pablo Cuello Suñol, Sistema Nacional de Educación Musical-Costa Rica.

 

 

2013 December 04

Recognizing Dr. Chibrás’ artistic and academic achievements, the National Council for Science and Technology (CONACYT - a decentralized public agency of Mexico's federal government) and the Presidency of Mexico invited him to join the evaluation panel for the doctoral curriculum in music of the National Autonomous University-National School of Music as part of an initiative for excellence.

 

 

2013 October 29 to November 01  

Conducting instructor at the Conducting Workshop of the 2013 Regional Encounter of the North-West Mexico Children and Youth Orchestras at la Paz, Baja California Sur. Chibrás’ inspired and empowering teaching gained praise from the conductor’s board resulting in an invitation to return for the 2014 meeting.

 

 

2013 October 24, 26 and 28

Acclaimed return to conduct the Instituto Politecnico Nacional Symphony Orchestra in a thrilling Halloween - Day of the Death celebration, with works by Dukas, Saint-Saëns and Berlioz. The performance was broadcasted live across Mexico through local television affiliates, cable television, and free-to-air satellite through Canal Once TV México – XEIPN – the Mexican educational broadcast television network, with enthusiastic comments from critics, audience and orchestra members.  

 

 

2013 June 16

Succesful return to conduct Toluca Philharmonic Orchestra at the Modelo Museum of Science and Industry, Toluca, State of México.          

 

 

2013 May 27 to 31

Instructor of the course “Analysis for Conductors” as part of the 2° Module of the Conducting Workshop for Youth Orchestra Conductors, organized by El Sistema –Mexico (SNFM) and the Iberorquestas Program of the SEGIB (Ibero-American General Secretariat).         

 

 

2013 April 27 and 28

Return to conduct the Carlos Chávez Youth Symphony Orchestra in a couple of full house Family concerts at the Blas Galindo Auditorium from the National Arts Center of Mexico (The CCYSO is the flagship ensemble from El Sistema México-SNFM).      

 

 

2013 April 18 and 20

Conducting debut with the Symphony Orchestra of the State of Puebla (Mex), at the San Pedro Museum of Vice-regal Art with enthusiastic ovation.          

 

 

2012 November 28

Conducted the Carlos Chávez Youth Symphony Orchestra (CCYSO) at the world premiere of “Devotion” by British multi-platinum and multi-award winner (Ivor Novello Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA and American Film Institute) Michael Nyman, during the re-inauguration of the CinetecaNacional(National Film Conservatory and Institute) by Mexican president Felipe Calderón. The work was written especially for the Carlos Chávez Youth Symphony Orchestra       

 

 

2012 November 17 and 18

Conducted the CCYSO at the National Museum of Anthropology and at the National Arts Center of México. With support from the MacArthur Foundation's International Connections Fund, DanceWorks Chicago partnered with the Carlos Chavez Youth Orchestra, bringing dance and music artists together through collaboration in the presentation of Magical Movements, originally presented with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.     

 

 

2012 October 22

As a result of a civil service examination process Armando Torres Chibrás won the national competition for the position as head of the Coordination for Artistic Development at El Sistema México-SNFM

Coordinator of the 2nd Meeting (summer camp and tour) of the México’s Children Concert Band. Touring to León, Guanajuato; San Juan del Río, Querétaro; Biblioteca Vasconcelos, México, D.F. and Pachuca, Hidalgo. This summer camp benefited over 100 children ages 8-17 from underserved towns and communities who attended for the first time this activity of El Sistema México-SNFM.

Sixth Regional Workshop of Wind Bands in Mérida Yucatán. As National Coordinator of Youth Concert Bands from El Sistema México (SNFM)I was responsible of supporting this activity of the Yucatán State Music Department covering the expenses of room and board for the members from six municipal youth bands from towns near Mérida.  

 

 

 

2012 July 14-21

Coordinator of the 12th Meeting (summer camp and tour) of the México’s Youth Concert Band. Performances at the Ocampo Theater in Cuernavaca, Morelos, and at Carlos Slim’s new arts center, the Museo Soumaya Polanco, México, D.F. This summer camp benefited over 60 young person’s ages 18-22 from underserved towns and communities who attended for the first time this activity of El Sistema México-SNFM.

Researcher within the multidisciplinary team who developed the application “Moncayo 100 años” for iphone and android by the National Council for the Arts of México to honor the 100th birth anniversary of Moncayo. His research for this app included interviews with individuals who knew J.P. Moncayo.
